The Book Club

I have decided to start a book club, that will run right here, on this very website you are reading. In this book club, each month I will pick a new book to read. I will attempt to read it before the month ends. At the end of the month, I will write up my notes and thoughts on the book and post them.

Would you like to join?

If you so desire, you may join this book club.

Members of this site will be able to comment and share thoughts on this month’s book (or any previous book, provided they have read it). This, however, is not expected. In fact, when it comes to expectations, I’d say at most, you can find the book, read it voraciously, take notes, and share your thoughts in the comments, once I’ve posted the page. And at the very least, you can think briefly about reading the book, decide it’s not for you, and that’s that. In fact, you don’t even have to consider it. If you’ve made it this far on this page, there’s a chance you’ll fall somewhere between these two extremes.

What criteria?

Unfortunately, you will have no say in what gets read—I’m not trying to be exclusionary, these are just the rules, and I’m afraid I have to abide by it. There won’t be an explicit criteria for which books get picked. I will simply pick the books based on the internal forces of my mind and the external forces of this world. What gets picked gets picked. It may as well be a bingo ball pulled out of a bingo cage.

Why do this here?

I see. You have questions about my motives. You want to understand why someone would run a book club on the internet. A very one-sided book club you might say. I have questions too. Unfortunately, the rules of this book club do not allow for such indulgences.

There will simply be a book, and there will be a discussion. A catalogue of previous entries may be found here.

Thank you.
