A novel written between November of 2019 and January 2020. The story follows a temporary dropout, Russ, house-sitting for a friend in a wealthy suburb of Toronto for a period of several months.
This novel was written while in Berlin, Edinburgh and Toronto.
On the first day of writing, I wrote from 7:30 in the morning until around 9. In the last few minutes of finishing up, I realized I was going to be sick. I ran to the window in the room I was staying, several stories up. I climbed up onto the heater, and wrenched the window open. I stuck my head out and was hit with cold air that thankfully stopped me from puking out a fourth floor window into a courtyard below.
On the last day of writing, I was sitting at my desk, wondering how to finish this story so I could get on with writing something better someday. And then I wrote the ending. And I liked it.
