I'm having a nice, slow Sunday evening where I've decided to revisit this little blog here and putter on its design a bit.
It would be fair to say that I seem to be in a perpetual state of mediocre satisfaction with this thing. While poking at some Tailwind styles, I started wondering what a blog should be (somewhat facetiously). I have some ideas, but I think I might have more ideas of what it shouldn't be, for me.
It shouldn't be a place where I anguish over what I publish, thinking that each piece has to be extremely important, as if it's going to divert the course of history entirely (what an ego on this goon, eh?)
Beyond the standard building the metaphorical muscle mantra I have, writing here shouldn't be a chore. I shouldn't be doing it out of some kind of self-tortured obligation to look relevant, etc.
On top of that, it shouldn't be a place where I feel like the content has to be of a certain type. While I sometimes wish I had a sustained interest in a single field (in which I could happily share my curiosities and interests [1]), I'm much too curious (and I too much appreciate variety) to be able to have a satisfying throughline.
I would go so far as to say that the word should should not be even in the title of this post! I think at the end of the day, overly concerning myself with content is what's stopping me from seeing where this thing goes!
So, let's roll with it. Life's too short to be reflecting like this any time I think about expressing the way I'm moving through the world, wouldn't you say?

I am in awe of people like James Gurney, who frequently, and seemingly without self-consciousness, post about whatever is of interest to them / they feel like teaching. ↩
