Something you should know about me, is that I derive a seemingly disproportionate amount of joy out of carrying stuff on a bike. And now, I have a cargo bike. What could it be that slaps that lopsided smile on my face when I load up a bike with (especially big) cargo? Surely it's because I'm doing something that seems shouldn't be possible. Maybe it's because I don't have to rent a truck to move a big item. Maybe it's because I feel like I'm momentarily living a glimpse of the future I want to see, where people turn to bikes in a situation like this and there is one less car on the road as a result.

Maybe it's just because I'm riding a big bike.

Anyway.

Yesterday, I hauled a 7x3' table on my cargo bike. With the help of a friend, we loaded it up, strapped it down and biked the short distance to my place. We certainly got our share of looks and even a few remarks (a little kid outside a daycare we passed yelled "HI TABLE!").

The Bullit was definitely a champ at carrying the weight. This was my first oversized load, and other than being mindful of the width and taking corners, it honestly didn't feel like the bike was loaded down that much. Granted, the table probably weighs less than 100 lbs.

The harder work was actually getting the table up the stairs and into the apartment. But that was done and done.

Let this just be the first of many tables (and bikes, appliances, people, donations, food hampers, etc) to be hauled. Now, please go enjoy sights of other people hauling stuff on bikes.
